Habitat for Humanity of Washington and Dodge County Dedicates Home in Juneau

A ceremony was held Saturday, February 24th for the Schwark family at their home located at 512 South Main Street, in Juneau. Russ Wanta, Executive Director with Habitat for Humanity of Washington and Dodge Counties, says the project started two years ago.  “It has, so far, been our largest land purchase.” Families who are selected for a Habitat home must demonstrate need, meet income eligibility guidelines and contribute sweat equity by taking part in the building process. The Schwark’s had been living in the basement of relatives. This Juneau home has four bedrooms and was built with accessibility ramps, wider doors, and turnaround spaces to accommodate a family member who is wheelchair bound.

YMCA of Dodge County also graciously gifted the Schwark family a year-long family membership.  Habitat for Humanity of Dodge and Washington Counties is proud to partner with YMCA of Dodge County’s and appreciates their commitment to our community.

“At YMCA of Dodge County, we are committed to serving our community. We foster an environment where people connect with each other, give of themselves, and grow in their sense of purpose and belonging. We promote an inclusive culture where everyone, regardless of their background, experiences, or circumstances, participates to the best of their ability,” said Jenny Pufahl, Senior Program Director. “We are working towards building a community characterized by strong, supportive connections between individuals and among groups and that is why we are excited to partner with Habitat for Humanity.”   The Schwark’s moved in on Saturday and will soon be the sole owners of the home. Wanta says Habitat is also renovating a home Beaver Dam on University Avenue and a family will be moving in sometime in June.
